Simona Halep, 2nd on the WTA rankings, decided to join two other tournaments after being eliminated in the first round of the Australian Open.
The reverse in the first Grand Slam of the year will cost her 420 points in the WTA ranking; last year she played in the quarterfinals of the competition. Halep said she plans to participate in both the Dubai tournament, from February 15 to 20, and the Qatar Open in Doha from 21 to 27 February.
Simona Halep enrolled in the Doha and Dubai tournaments to recover the lost points
Halep will try to make up in February for her setback at the Australian Open. Simona decided to defend the 900 points accumulated in Doha, where she conquered the trophy last year, and give up Qatar. The Romanian tennis player also considers going to Dubai, where organizers will probably require a wild card to enter the main board. For her presence on the main board Halep will receive 10 WTA points and a prize of 34,500 Australian dollars (about 22,000 euros).
